Feature
Alteration tracker for clothing shops
How do I keep track of alterations in a clothing shop?
In Tap & Bill, tap + Alteration under the item while making the bill, pick the work (length short, fitting, fall / pico…) and the ready day, and add a charge if you take one. The receipt shows the work and the ready day, and you can print a tailor slip for the garment. The Alterations list shows what is late, due today and tomorrow. Tap Mark ready to WhatsApp the customer, and Collected when they pick it up.
Pant length, blouse fitting, sleeves, fall and pico: most clothing shops do alterations every day. They usually live on paper slips and in a notebook. Slips get lost, the tailor doesn’t know what is due first, and customers call to ask “is it ready?”.
Tap & Bill keeps the alteration on the bill itself, so the bill number is the customer’s token. Everyone at the counter sees the same list, sorted by the day you promised.
What you get
- Alteration on the bill line: work, ready day, charge
- Quick picks: length short, waist tight or loose, sleeves, fitting, fall / pico, blouse stitching
- Charge billed as its own line, so totals, GST and reports stay right
- Ready day printed in bold on the receipt and the bill PDF
- Tailor slip print on the thermal printer
- To do / Ready / Collected list for owner and staff, on the phone and the computer
- “Ready” WhatsApp message to the customer, in English, Hindi or Gujarati
- Open alterations in the owner’s sales report
How it works
Add it on the bill
Tap + Alteration under the item: work, ready day and charge (blank if free).
Print the tailor slip
Ready day in big letters, the piece, the work, the bill number and the customer.
Work from the list
Late, due today, tomorrow and later. A banner on the bill screen shows what is late.
Ready, then collected
Mark ready to WhatsApp the customer. Mark collected when they pick it up.
Example: a pant length alteration
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Bill INV-1042 | Pant 32, ₹900, with “+ Alteration”: Length short, ready Saturday, charge ₹50 |
| Bill total | Pant ₹900 + “Alteration: Pant” ₹50 = ₹950 |
| Receipt and slip | “READY: Sat 12 Oct” in bold; the slip goes with the pant to the tailor |
| Friday | The bill screen shows “Alterations: 1 due tomorrow” |
| Saturday | Tailor finishes, staff tap Mark ready, the customer gets “your Pant alteration is ready, bill INV-1042” |
| Customer comes | Staff tap Collected; it moves out of the list |
Good to know
- The bill number is the token, so customers don’t need a separate paper slip to collect.
- Change the ready day any time; late ones are shown in red.
- Cancelled bills drop out of the list on their own.
- Today the “ready” WhatsApp goes from the shop’s own phone, one tap per customer. Automatic sending from the Tap & Bill number is coming soon.
- Alterations are taken on bills made in Tap & Bill. Stitching orders and measurements are not included.
Alteration tracker: questions
Can I charge for alterations?
Yes. Type the charge in the alteration box. It is added to the bill as its own line, “Alteration: Pant ₹50”, so it is counted in sales and GST. Leave it blank for free alterations.
Can staff mark alterations ready?
Yes. Owner and staff both see the list and can mark ready or collected.
What does the tailor slip show?
The ready day in big letters, the piece and size, the work, the bill number and date, and the customer’s name and mobile.
Will the customer get a message?
When you tap Mark ready, WhatsApp opens on the shop phone with “your alteration is ready” and the bill number. Press send.
Does it work for stitching orders?
Not yet. The tracker is for alterations on pieces sold on a bill. Tell us if you need stitching orders with measurements.
