Feature
Know what customers asked for and you didn’t have
How do I track sales lost because an item was not in stock?
In Tap & Bill, staff tap Not in stock? on the bill screen when a customer asks for something you don’t have, pick the item, size and colour, and save; a mobile number is optional. The owner sees the most asked items for the last 7, 30 or 90 days, for example “Jeans · XL · Black: 15 customers asked”. When the item arrives, tap Now in stock and WhatsApp the customers who left a number.
Every shop loses sales it never sees. A customer asks for black jeans in XL, you don’t have it, and they walk out. No bill is made, so nothing is written down. Next month you buy the same sizes again.
Tap & Bill gives the counter a five-second way to note these requests. Over a week they add up to a clear list of what customers wanted, most asked first, so you buy what sells and call back the customers who were waiting.
What you get
- One-tap item, size and colour picks; type anything else
- Optional note (“slim fit”, “under ₹800”) and customer mobile
- Same item, size and colour counted together, however it was typed
- Most asked first, for the last 7, 30 or 90 days
- Top 5 asks on the owner’s Reports screen
- “Now in stock” clears it and lists the customers to WhatsApp
- Works on the Android app and on the computer (New bill)
- App in English, Hindi and Gujarati
How it works
Customer asks
They want something you don’t have, like a kurti in M, red.
Tap Not in stock?
On the bill screen, pick the item, size and colour. Add their mobile if they want a call back.
See the list
The owner sees the most asked items in Reports and on the Not in stock page.
Tell them it’s in
Tap Now in stock and send each waiting customer a WhatsApp from your phone.
Example: one week at a garment shop
Staff noted 31 requests in a week. The owner’s list looked like this:
| Asked for | Customers | Left a number |
|---|---|---|
| Jeans · XL · Black | 15 | 9 |
| Kurti · M · Red | 9 | 4 |
| Kids T-shirt · 4–5 yrs | 7 | 2 |
The next purchase order had XL black jeans in it. When the stock came, the owner tapped Now in stock on that line and sent nine WhatsApp messages from the shop phone, each one ready to send: “Namaste Ravi, the Jeans XL Black you asked for is now in stock at Sharma Garments. Come and see it!”
Good to know
- This is not stock counting. Tap & Bill still has no inventory or barcodes; the list only records what customers asked for.
- Staff and owners can note requests. Only the owner sees the list and marks items in stock.
- Messages go from the shop’s own WhatsApp, one tap per customer, so there is no extra cost.
- Note requests while online. Bills work offline; this list needs the internet to save.
Not in stock (missed sales): questions
What is a missed sale?
A sale you lost because the customer wanted something you didn’t have: a size, a colour or an item. It never shows in your sales report because no bill was made.
Does this mean Tap & Bill now manages stock?
No. There is still no stock count, inventory or barcode. The Not in stock list only records what customers asked for, so you know what to buy.
Can staff see the list?
Staff can note requests. The list and the “Now in stock” button are for the owner.
Do I need the customer’s mobile number?
No, it is optional. Without it the request still counts in the list; with it you can WhatsApp them when the item arrives.
What if two staff type it differently?
“jeans xl black” and “Jeans XL Black” count as the same request. Use the size and colour picks to keep it tidy.
Is it on every plan?
Yes. It is part of every plan, with no extra charge.
